this is midtown Manhattan yesterday June 7 at 1 pm.

my part of Brooklyn had yellow skies and the air stank, but it wasn’t apocalyptic. And the smoke drifted into our apartment from outside. My concern echoed 9/11, when the officials told us we were safe to work downtown and run through clouds of asbestos dust. A walk or subway trip to my gym was chancy, but staying was worse.

THe fires in Canada have not been quenched and we’ve been getting clouds of smoke for over 24 hours.
