Last Saturday, I took part in the Occu-evolve protest day on Citizens United. And because it was Occupy, and because they like hearing from Jerry the balding tubby radical, I rewrote HOW TO STOP THE EMPIRE WHILE KEEPING YOUR DAY JOB. This is a really solid video, shot by my friend Owen Long, a gifted and astute photographer. Go ahead, look at it for 13 minutes or thereabouts.

One note–I went up on one of my lines. I make a crack about Congresscreatures making $178,000 a year, which is not true. It’s 174K.  And I missed a lot of zeros in explaining what that magnificent rate of pay means in terms of the fiduciary pecking order. I said the congresscreature only had to hold onto his seat for another 3,000 years to be worth what Charles Koch is worth right now. Alas, there’s some dispute about what Mr. Koch is worth, but most estimates have him at $36 Billion dollars or thereabouts, not the $51 billion I assumed. So if we’re paying a Congresscreature about $174,000 a year, he just needs to save up all his money for TWO HUNDRED THOUSAND YEARS (assuming he keeps winning his seat) to achieve the same net worth. But good news–by then, most of the radiation from Fukushima should be close to the end of its half-life…

Which is a roundabout way of saying that it’s nearly impossible for a Congresscreature to regulate the 85 richest people on Earth who have more money than the Bottom half of humanity (about 3.5 billion people) combined.
