This weekend is the one year anniversary of Occupy Wall Street taking over Zuccotti Park and renaming it Liberty Park. A lot has happened over the past year, and the Occupy movement has in many ways changed the narrative about America’s relationship with the top income earners (the 1%). I’m not going to try to explain all of the upcoming events starting tomorrow–there are nearly one hundred teach-ins, gatherings and culture events coming up between Saturday and next Friday. Best bet is the s17 website.
I note that there are large numbers of activities going on Saturday and Sunday, including outdoor concerts and teach-ins. And Monday will kick off with a number of protests in the financial district. FAIR WARNING: Some of these events will be simple protests or marches, some will involve civil disobedience, and more than a few of them will involve the risk of arrest. If you’re new to all this, check out the list of classes on various protest information being taught on Saturday. And keep your wits together–bad things can happen in a very short time if you aren’t paying attention.
Go to the September 17 New York website here. And remember–don’t sweat the petty stuff and don’t pet the sweaty stuff. or something.
