The Unemployment protest on Feb 7

So there we were in the cold. It was noon on Friday and we were in front of Federal Hall on Wall Street. We were a small gathering.

So there we all were in the cold on Friday, yelling about unemployment. Anybody in this picture who isn’t wearing heavy cold gear is freezing their butt off. Props to Occu-Evolve for calling the demonstration, but this is no way to bring attention to a problem. There are tens of thousands of people in the five boroughs alone who are getting extended UI benefits cut off.

Today’s news is that the House is about to pass a ‘clean’ debt ceiling extension. Boehner has indicated he is not willing to practice the sort of brinksmanship that turned previous fights into government shutdowns.

And what about the extension for unemployment benefits?

Oh, the Senate still hasn’t passed the resumption of extended benefits. There doesn’t seem to be any urgency in doing so.

We all need to keep the pressure on. The unemployed would probably prefer jobs, but they can’t make their bills right now.  Wanna help plan a protest?
